The Two Gentlemen of Verona Part I

Now that we’ve worked out some of the kinks, we are very pleased to welcome you, good listener, to the official debut release of Offensive Shadows!  In our first “real” series of episodes, we will be covering Shakespeare’s first(?) comedy, The Two Gentlemen of Verona.  In this episode, we introduce Two Gents and cover some of the major issues and themes which occur in Act I.

Two Gents is one of Dani’s favorite comedies and she is excited to discuss this often misunderstood “problem play”.  Mike’s pretty sure she’s nuts, but that’s par for the course at this point.  We hope that you’ll consider seeking out an opportunity to acquaint yourself with this infrequently performed show.  If you’re in the Boston area, you should check out the Actor’s Shakespeare Project’s production which runs December 12, 2012 – January 6, 2013.  Details on tickets for this show can be found here.

We used the BBC Films version of the play as part of our preparation. You can find the DVD on Netflix or here on Amazon.

Internet Shakespeare Editions has the first folio text of Two Gents here.
